Gilbert + Tobin: Triple-display configurations rolled out at world-class law firm
CASE STUDY BRIEF
Client: Gilbert + Tobin (G+T)
Location: Sydney, Australia
CHALLENGE In early 2016, G+T conducted a major relocation that involved moving approximately 500 people into 9500 sqm of office space spread over four floors in the dynamic new Barangaroo precinct in Sydney’s CBD. This also involved a radical move into a more collaborative, open plan work environment and for this change G+T required dynamic, flexible, and compact monitor arm and above desk power solutions. In particular they wanted to maximise the mobility of their workforce and enable fluid cross-collaboration between floors and departments.
SOLUTION G+T selected 450 triple display mounts (2 x monitors and 1 x notebook/laptop tray) from Atdec’s dynamic monitor arm range, as well as 450 above-desk intelligence power modules for compact, fast and energy-efficient recharging of multiple additional devices including smart phones and tablets.

Project Overview

Gilbert + Tobin is one of Australia’s leading corporate law firms serving clients throughout Australia and internationally on a broad range of legal issues. Established in 1988, Gilbert + Tobin has over 500 professionals, and has offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

G+T also boasts the highest proportion of female partners of any major Australian law firm, is a proud pioneer in providing pro bono services, and has received recognition most recently as Law Firm of the Year at the prestigious Australian Law Awards.

In early 2016 G+T undertook a large headquarters relocation to the brand new Barangaroo precinct in Sydney’s CBD. This major relocation, a reflection of G+T’s stated innovative and agility values, involved moving approximately 500 people into 9500 sqm of office space spread over four floors.

Challenge

As well as a complete brand and logo refresh, the biggest relocation challenge involved moving from a traditional office model to a more open plan, collaborative work environment. Managing partner, Danny Gilbert, explained G+T’s vision in a video announcing the move:

“Gilbert + Tobin is going open plan because the modern world demands collaboration. People need to share information, share knowledge—we need to be able to pick up on the entrepreneurial ideas and input of all of our staff. Offices are a barrier to that.”

A big requirement G+T had with this shift into open plan offices, were dynamic, flexible, and compact monitor arm solutions. In particular, they wanted to maximise the mobility of their workforce and enable fluid cross-collaboration between floors and departments. In their own words:

“Our objective with Barangaroo was to purpose-build a dynamic workspace that supports a culture focused on outstanding client service. We want a space that will introduce new ways of thinking to meet the challenges and opportunities which the future is presenting, particularly around major technology change. Our working style is highly interactive so we need a space to foster ideas and collaboration.”

Solution

After careful consideration, G+T selected 450 triple display mounts from Atdec’s dynamic monitor arm range. This configuration accommodates two monitors as well as a laptop in a space-efficient and ergonomic setup, ensuring employees have instant, convenient and adjustable access to all the knowledge assets they require for each demanding client contract. Rotation Limiters were also inserted between the arm and the post to prevent arms banging into the partition behind the screens, allowing each person to customise the arm movement according to their desk requirements. The monitor arm solution had to be stylish and contemporary to match the Unifor workstations and compliment the G+T brand refresh.

To further enhance their brand new workstations, G+T acquired 450 of Atdec’s intelligent power modules (pictured at the above-desk base of the mounts). The energy-efficient Intelligence Power Modules include dual 10A GPO sockets, dual USB charging ports, and a shared output power 5A that charges 4 times faster than your standard PC USB port. Ideal for fast recharging of multiple additional devices including smart phones and tablets. Clever cable management attributes of the power module and monitor arms was also essential and a significant feature of the Atdec range, ensuring a neat, productive and safe work environment.
