Bank of Queensland: New head office ergonomically optimized for 1050+ employees

CHALLENGE Brisbane head office relocation to new 12,500sqm building with expanded space for their 1050-plus employee base; sought custom space saving solution capable of adapting to the ergonomic needs of every employee; required upgradable and space optimized solutions, visually and functionally complementary to existing workstations; required an interchangeable system that was capable of covering a broad range of applications, from dynamic single display mounts to multi device and multi display configurations.
SOLUTION After months of research and testing, installation of 700+ single display mounts at individual workstations, including three additional channels on desk post mount to support multi display, notebook combinations and more as required; custom shelving system also implemented into the individual workstations to maintain line of sight and consistent decor; installation of multiple quad monitor mounts (able to support four large screens) in the treasury department for investment data analysis; ergonomic features across installation include spring assisted arms with quick release mounting heads, high range of adjustability and enhanced cockpit angles (for multi display configurations); modular design both future proof, upgradable and interchangeable; sleek profile, minimalist design and range of color options to integrate seamlessly with existing decor.

Bank of Queensland is one of Australia’s leading independent regional banks with more than 250 branches across Australia. They recently relocated their Brisbane head office to a new 12,500sqm building within the budding business hub “Gasworks.” Making the move outside of the city allowed more space for their large employee base (1050+) and integrated their business into the newly established and bustling business community.

Atdec was invited to fit out the new building with a range of monitor arms, taking advantage of the brand new Systema range’s modularity, versatility and upgradability. The project was a collaboration between three companies; the design firm Hassell, workstation supplier Haworth and project managers CBRE. After searching extensively to find the perfect mounting solution and reviewing numerous applications they selected Atdec’s new range of modular monitor arms.

Challenge

Bank of Queensland’s diverse employee base offered up a unique set of challenges. They sought a monitor mounting solution that would be capable of adapting to the ergonomic needs of every employee, allow for future upgrades, save valuable office space and both visually and functionally complement the existing workstations. Additionally they hoped to implement on interchangeable system that was capable of covering a broad range of applications, from dynamic single display mounts to multi device and multi display configurations and even completely custom space saving solutions.

Solution

The Systema modular display mounting solution addresses the challenges faced by the finance sector, even in the most challenging of environments with exceptionally large employee bases. Considering the challenges faced by Bank of Queensland, the selection process was critically important and every option was assessed at length. After some months of research and testing, Hassell and Bank of Queensland determined that Systema addressed all the required elements:

  • Highly Ergonomic: Its spring assisted arms with quick release mounting heads, high range of adjustability and enhanced cockpit angles (for multi display configurations) addressed the ergonomic concerns of the office.
  • Future Proof and Upgradable: Its modular design is upgradable, interchangeable, future proof and reduces redundant components.
  • Quality design and a range of color options: Its sleek profile, minimalist design and range of colour options allowed it to integrate seamlessly with their existing work stations. The white colour option ultimately decided on is often utilised by corporate environments thanks to its ability to be integrated with furniture and decor elements.
  • Environmentally responsible: The choice of materials, 10 year warranty and upgradability make it the environmentally responsible choice. It is designed for an extended lifespan, can be broken down into its raw materials at the end of its life and is designed in Australia.

Ergonomic single display mounting solutions

For individual workstations the Systema SS10W single monitor mount was employed. This mount offers a high level of ergonomic support thanks to its spring assisted design and high range of motion. The arm can be installed in any one of the four channels of the desk mount post leaving three additional channels free to support multi display, notebook combinations and more should the need develop.

Bank of Queensland wanted to maintain sight lines and add additional storage throughout the office so they requested an additional custom solution to be implemented into the individual workstations. They took advantage of Systema’s adaptability and created a custom shelving system. The shelving system is based off a custom length desk post with an MDF shelf allowing ample space for office supplies without compromising on style.

Quad display solutions for treasury areas

In addition to the 700+ single display mounts that were implemented throughout the building, the treasury department and investment area implemented Systema quad monitor solutions (SQ4675W). The quad monitor mount enabled four large (up to 30”) screens to be supported without sacrificing adjustability or cockpit angle. These monitors are primarily used to analyse investment data quickly and easily and are a critical component at Bank of Queensland.
